Atea, with Com4 as a subcontractor, have made a deal with Validér to deliver communications services to more than 700 000 power meters, Norways biggest rollout within AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure). The deal spans over two years, with an option for two more years, and have an estimated value of 13.5 million NOK.

The deal means that Com4 and Atea, together with the power companies already established infrastructure, shall secure the data traffic of 700 000 power meters managed by the power companies in the SORIA-network. Together with Atea we have tailored a solution for Validér and the power companies, says Stian Eldre, Partner Manager at Com4.

The Solution is based on the use of a dedicated and private APN within the mobile network to secure logical separation from other traffic in the mobile network. SIM-cards will be delivered to power-meters, and to concentrators which ensures communication with power-meters that are placed in their own radio-network, he says. The delivery also includes a web-portal for management of all SIM-cards which enable Validér to control and manage the solution in a very efficient way.

From analogue to digital within 2019

The Government have decided that all electricity customers shall have new automatic power meters, and that all analogue power meters shall be replaced within 2019, says Einar Vaage, Regional Director at Atea.

Automatic power meters makes it easier for the customers as you no longer have to manually read and report the electricity used. In addition it is a safer solution as the power companies get better information if a power-outage occurs. According to the deal with Validér, Atea will handle logistics and management, while Com4 will deliver the communication-solution and the technology surrounding it, he says.

A futureproof and cost-efficient solution for automatic power meters shall be delivered to power companies located on the west-coast, Trøndelag and the Northern parts of Norway. When choosing a supplier we have considered closeness to cooperation and competence, which is alpha and omega in a time where markets and premises are changing. We have therefore chosen the solution and supplier we think best help us in our own service production both short and long-term, he says.
