MedThings is a Norwegian healthtech company with a clear mission: to make life safer and simpler for elderly patients, those with chronic conditions, and the professionals who care for them. Founded by industrial designer and former Dignio product lead Bjørn Toreid, MedThings builds on Norway’s long-standing leadership in welfare technology.
After five years of development, the company’s flagship product – a smart medication dispenser with integrated dosing system – is already in use in dozens of municipalities, and will soon be deployed in Oslo.
MedThings is certified as a Class I medical device manufacturer, with all design and
production taking place in Norway. The system is built not just for function, but for dignity – blending seamlessly into both kitchens and clinical environments.
Medication is among the most resource-intensive tasks in healthcare. Manual pill organizers, based on concepts from the 1970s, are still widely used. The risk of errors is high, and few solutions support the full value chain from prescription to intake. Half of all medications are not taken correctly. The logistics around preparation and delivery are time-consuming, costly, and error-prone. In home care alone, nearly 3 million visits are made each week – many just to handle pill dispensing and correction.
Technology available today often delivers a poor user experience for both patients and
professionals. Devices tend to look like “medical gadgets” instead of everyday tools designed for people.
Mobili has been reduced to a single clear button and a subtle light signal. When the user presses the button to confirm they want their medicine, the dose drops directly into the cup.
The system is designed for efficient workflows, fast onboarding, and seamless integration. The interface is so intuitive that both elderly users and young children can operate it. Everything is remotely controlled, and updates to medication plans can be made in seconds.
For MedThings, reliable and uninterrupted connectivity is critical. The system operates via
live 4G connections, with every device equipped with Com4’s eSIM.
Com4’s eSIM solution provides access to over 750 mobile networks in 190 countries. If signal strength drops – or a patient takes the dispenser on vacation – Mobili automatically switches to a stronger network.
“We can’t have a solution where you push a button and something happens six hours later,” says Toreid. “It needs to be snappy – and it is, with Com4.”
“It’s critical that the connectivity just works. With Com4, it does – and that’s why we chose them.”
“We’re not designing something that screams ‘you’re sick.’ We’re making a design product that belongs in people’s homes.”
“Everyone should be able to use it – from my two-year-old son to a nursing home resident.”
Our carrier-agnostic IoT SIMs grant access to multiple networks no matter where you deploy. Expanding into new countries? You won't need to negotiate or integrate with new providers. With Multi-IMSI technology, our SIMs can store various subscriber identities and switch profiles as necessary. Additionally, eUICCs enable you to remotely provision SIMs with new profiles Over-the-Air (OTA).
