Reliable IoT connectivity for smart metering
Electricity, water and heat meters that deliver data every time, even from basements and fuse boxes. Com4 connects meters and data concentrators to secure cellular networks, in the Nordics and worldwide.
Why smart metering needs more than a standard SIM
Meters often sit in basements, behind metal doors or in manholes underground. Coverage there is weak, and a SIM locked to a single operator leaves you with few options.
With multi-network SIMs from Com4, meters connect to the strongest available network. NB-IoT and LTE-M give better indoor coverage and long battery life for meters without mains power.
Because meters stay in place for many years, the solution has to cope with networks changing. 2G and 3G are being switched off, and operator agreements change. With eSIM and SGP.32, you can switch profiles over the air instead of replacing SIM cards in the field.
In Polaris CMP you see your whole meter fleet in one place: status, data usage and faults, whether you run a hundred SIMs or hundreds of thousands.
As part of Wireless Logic, we support more than 20 million connections worldwide. Nordic at heart, global by reach. Read more about smart meters and IoT.
What you can connect with Com4:
Electricity meters (AMS)
Automatic consumption readings and power outage alerts
Water and heat meters
Remote reading of water and district heating, even from manholes and basements
Data concentrators and gateways
Collect data from many meters and forward it securely
Secondary substations
Monitor voltage and load across the distribution grid
Remote updates
Update firmware and settings without sending out an engineer
Secure data collection
Closed networks and private APN for critical infrastructure
Trusted by some of Norway's largest smart metering players
When Norway rolled out AMS smart meters, Validér chose Atea and Com4 to deliver mobile data communication for automatic power meters. The contract covered around 200,000 SIM cards in the first phase, with potential for up to one million. Traffic is routed from the meter to an isolated, closed network with end-to-end security, and rewritable SIMs make it possible to change mobile provider without replacing the card.

Preloaded with Com4’s eSIM profile, the RUT241 delivers instant connectivity out of the box — no physical SIM required. Ideal for industrial IoT and M2M applications across Europe and beyond, offering flexible management through Teltonika RMS and Com4’s connectivity platform.
You’ll get:
● A quick assessment of your use case and connectivity needs.
● Guidance on RUT241 setup, RMS, VPN, and eSIM profile management.
Secure data collection for critical infrastructure
Meter data is sensitive, and the power grid is critical infrastructure. Com4 can route all traffic from the meter to an isolated, closed network with end-to-end security, using private APN, VPN and strict access control. Meter data never crosses the open internet.
